Lindsey Spoon is a 5th grade student in the Owasso Public School system.  She is a member of the Honor Choir.   She lives with her parents, Ronnie and Wendy Spoon.  She has an extended family that is very involved in her life and supports her in all of her endeavors.  Lindsey attends Freedom Church with her family, where she is a very active member.  She likes playing virtual games on the computer and playing  Wii games.  She enjoys keeping a journal on her computer.  She loves writing songs.  She loves her Grandmother's chicken and dumplings and likes to cook meatloaf.  In the future, she would like to attend the University of Oklahoma to become a teacher or author. 


Community Service

Lindsey is a cheerleader with TOS Brightest Stars Special Needs Cheer Squad.  She enjoys riding horses with Bit By Bit Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center.  Her picture can be seen on their site:  www.rsu.edu/bitbybit

Type of Disability

Lindsey has Cerebral Palsy due to a premature birth.  She was born at 29 and 1/2 weeks weighing only 3 pounds and 1/2 ounce.  She spent 47 days in NICU.

- Poster child for Tulsa Celebral Palsy Association 2001-2002
- Tulsa Public Schools Area III DIstrict Student Excellence Award,2003
- Student of the Month (6 times)
-Essay Contest Winner with Tulsa Jaycees Bikes for Tykes program 2008                                                                                                                                                  
 (she wrote an essay about why her friend deserved a new bike, and her friend got a new bike)
- FIrst Place ribbons for Showmanship and Grooming, Bit by Bit Horse Show 2009
- Medal of Participation with TOS Brightest Stars, American Spirit Championship, 2010
- Medal of Participation with TOS Brightest Stars at Jamfest, 2011
-Miss Congeniality 2011 at the 3rd Annual Ms. Wheelchair Oklahoma Pageant
-Medal of Participation with TOS Brightest Stars at Jamfest Nationals, 2011
-3 First Place Ribbons in the Green Country Area Special Olympics Games

Attitude/Philosophy about Disabilities

She feels that persons with disabilities can do anything they want to do in life.  She tells her friends that she is just like them, she just can not walk.  Even though she faces many challenges, she has a very strong heart about it.  She has faith in God that helps her to overcome and deal with the challenges.
